Google has released today the flip-side of their popular satellite driven application Google earth. Instead of zooming from space to the planet earth, you can now zoom from the earth to the sky - or rather the starts to be more exact.

This update, isn’t really being called “Google Sky” instead, it’s just an update to the Google Earth - version 4.2

With about a hundred million stars and two hundred million galaxies, Sky in Google Earth lets you explore the heavens like never before.

Viewing the sky is just as easy as clicking “Sky” and Google Earth will display the stars as shown directly above the position that you were viewing of the earth. The sky functionality even goes so far as to include the ability to view as seen from the hubble telescope and to give you further detailed information about what you’re viewing. This sounds like an astronomer’s or even a teacher’s new favorite tool.

The article really explains it all. The Japanese created a new arcade machine that is, quite frankly, MEAN!

This really looks like a spoof - truly it does, but I can’t help but notice the valid URL in my browser. Ack

Lose a game of chess to a computer, and you could bruise your ego. Lose an arm-wrestling match to a Japanese arcade machine, and you could break your arm.

Distributor Atlus Co. said Tuesday it will remove all 150 “Arm Spirit” arm wrestling machines from Japanese arcades after three players broke their arms grappling with the machine’s mechanized appendage…

Now as you can see, they likely didn’t INTEND to create arm wrestling machines that break your arm, but I’d like to ask - how did they end up getting this thing through testing and out into the market without discovering its vindictive nature?

Psichi in our forums linked this article to me and I feel that it’s quite an interesting take on the benefits that quite often aren’t mentioned about people who game.

This column discusses the various trials gamers have to address while gaming and how that actually tends to make them more likely to be just that more vigilant when dealing with a real-world situation that is perplexing.  It truly does make sense - and the Frank Ling is right - those that I know as gamers tend to be far more responsible and are far more driven to solve a particularly difficult problem than a lot of those who balk at gamers and “their evil ways”.

The latest press release from IAHGames is announcing the teaming up of Granada Espada, Intel, and Mechinima to allow players to more easily create their own Fan-Videos.

Live demos and workshops are planned for those within the East Asian market (bahh! How could I live in the Americas when such cool things are happening over on the other side of the world?).

You may have heard of Comic Book Creator in the past, for those who haven’t, it’s a simple program that lets you use any image you can find to create your own comic. The program then lets you arrange the panels, add word-bubbles, clip-art, etc…

Those that went to Fan Faire recieved a demo CD of the program in their swag-bag. If you weren’t at Fan Faire, no biggie, you can get the demo at their website.
