Legends of Norrath - full OGR coverage
If you’re one of the many who tune into EQ2’s-day, you’ve been able to experience the colorful commentary brought to you by Dellmon and Zanadi as they talk about their experiences with Legends of Norrath 3 weeks in a row.
The game has now launched within EverQuest and EverQuest 2. Zanadi has written her take on the game from the perspective of one who has not very close and snuggly with previously created games of similar gameplay style.
In addition to Zanadi’s review, we were able to poke and prod “Monte - The Geek” into writing a bit about his experience. Now, the thing to remember is that whenever Monte agrees to do something, he doesn’t just do it halfway, he doesn’t do the minimum or just a smidge more than the minimum… he goes full out and runs with the new project. So not only is his article a review, it’s somewhat also a guide to LoN.

Legends of Norrath: The TCG Virgin’s Perspective
So you are an avid EverQuest or EverQuest 2 player and know everything about the game. You are a top level character, you have leveled what seems like hundreds of characters, and you are the king or queen of every new expansion that comes your way… but today - you may have met your match. Welcome to the new world of Legends of Norrath: a new card game, also known as a TCG (Trading Card Game), built inside the realm of Norrath. Legends of Norrath (LoN) crosses the gap between EverQuest Live, and EverQuest 2 and allows you to go up against players from either game. Now, I know you’re all excited and want to get started right away, but hold those wargs back! First lets hit the tutorial.
The tutorial can be difficult to understand if you have not played trading card games (TCGs) before. For the average EverQuest gamer, it may be hard, but it’s not impossible to catch on. Personally, I found the tutorial to be lacking. A lot of information was tossed into the tutorial, but not a lot of reasoning behind that information. For example, I know I’m playing this card, but please help me understand why I’m doing it? After 45 minutes of going through all 11 sections of the tutorial, I thought I might have a handle on it. I would later find that I was wrong. To help with that “deer caught in headlights” stare I had on my face, I discovered that the best way to learn was to find someone who already understands how to play TCGs. Kind of sad, considering the time and work that must have been put into the creation of the tutorial.
Legends of Norrath : The Geek’s Experience
Introduction
So SOE recently released their latest Norrathian endeavor, Legends of Norrath: Oathbound. A digitized collectable/trading card game set in the world of Norrath. I, myself and the geek that is me have always been an avid fan of CCG’s as I know them (SOE prefers the term Trading Card Game or TCG to the other alternative that I know which is Collectable Card Game or CCG) dating back to the mother of them all Magic: The Gathering which I started playing shortly after they stopped selling the black edged limited edition and released their first expansion Arabian Nights. Since those days I have played all manners of CCG’s including but not limited to Vampire: The Eternal Struggle (aka Jyhad), 7th Sea, Legend of the Five Rings, Net Runner, BattleTech and Shadowfist. So when I heard about the new game and its beta, I was excited. Not just a little, not just a lot, but more excited about any impending beta than I think I ever have been before.
Unfortunately I was not one of the lucky fan faire attendees which automatically got into the beta so after some cajoling, bribing, begging, threats of violence and a series of events which will never see the light of print I managed to get myself into the beta. After logging into the client I was given the choice to either go to the main menu or start playing through the tutorials, I went for the tutorials as while I believe the only way to truly learn a game is to play it, some basic knowledge might just help me actually play.
South Park’s WoW Episode Wins Emmy
The episode of South Park which was roughly 50% machinima produced inside of the World of Warcraft game engine has won an Emmy!
This is South Park’s second Emmy, and the first time ever that such a major award has been won by something that used machinima to such a degree. It’s clearly too early to tell, but it is possible that this victory could spark new respect for the machinima community as a whole.
Well done to both Blizzard and South Park!
EQ2s-day Sep 11, 2007
Are You Ready For Some Football - Zanadis internet connection poofed this week just before showtime. So Dellmon is joined by Luxx and they discuss gender biasing in the healer classes and Luxxs experiences in the trading card game, Legends of Norrath.
